There are quite a few staple landmarks scattered around this steep-streeted city. San Francisco rightfully earned the nickname “Everybody’s Favorite City,” because of its swirl of scenic landscapes, diverse communities, and culinary masterpieces. So, hop on a cable car and explore all that this sweet little city has to offer.

Neighborhoods

San Francisco is the 17th most populous city in the U.S, and there’s certainly no shortage of culture either. Each neighborhood is iconic in its own way, with a variety of dining, shopping, history, and art to explore.

• Fisherman’s Wharf: The buzzing energy on PIER 39 keeps this northern waterfront area topping the tourist charts year after year. Breathe in the salty sea air while strolling alongside restaurants and souvenir shops while admiring the local seals lounging on along the bay.
• The Castro District: Loud and LGBTQ proud. However you identify, this district is a guaranteed good time for everyone. With brightly colored buildings and rainbow streets, this section of SF also has an amazing history of LGBTQ activism—it was home to Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man voted to public office.
• Haight Ashbury: One of the city’s most famous neighborhoods, Haight Ashbury has a longstanding hippie history—it was home to tons of famous musicians like the Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin. There’s still plenty of vintage clothing and music stores worth exploring, not to mention its colorful Victorian homes that are a staple to SF.

Landmarks

Within this fog-infused city are tons of famous landmarks. The Golden Gate Bridge is a can’t-miss spectacle. Built in 1917, this cherry red suspension bridge is the tallest and longest in the world—it’s internationally recognized and considered one of the Wonders of the Modern World. Another iconic SF landmark is Alcatraz. Located just over a mile offshore, this little island served as a prison in the mid 1900’s. Some of the most notorious prisoners to ever live were housed here and it was had a reputation for being one of the best-run penitentiaries in the world.

Food

This food scene is no joke. With nearly one million residents, the bay area is practically bursting with flavors and aromas from around the world. SF is known to be an extremely forward-thinking city, constantly testing limits and pushing boundaries, culinary creations included.
