Cities We’re In | Dallas

Dallas has become increasingly popular in recent years — it’s home to 1.3 million people!

This sunny city is a melting pot of cultures and cuisines that are definitely worth exploring for a long weekend.

Dallas is the 9th most populous city in America thanks to its massive size and year-round warmth — bringing in a swirl of diversity along with it. Thanks to its sheer size, Dallas has endless activities to explore, from sporting events to art exhibits — and tacos, of course.

Art and museums

Broaden your cultural horizons with one of Dallas’ numerous galleries or museums. Famously known for the JFK assassination, be sure to check out Dallas’ Six Floor Museum to unpack the string of intricate, controversial events that unfolded on November 22, 1963. There’s an entire art district exploding with personality — it’s home to the prominent Dallas Museum of Art, which has a collection of over 24,000 objects collected over the course of five millennia.

Shopping

SEVEN — Austin, TX

Dallas is also home to the Neiman Marcus Group, which debuted in 1907 and lit the flame for a fashion-forward city. Later, in 1931, Highland Park Village was introduced as America’s first shopping center, so shopping is taken pretty seriously by the city. This massive shopping mall is like a city itself, with stores for all price points, even luxury labels, plus 11 restaurants to choose from. Today, Dallas has the highest number of shopping centers per capita in a U.S. city, so if you’re on the hunt for a particular item, finding it in Dallas is probably your best bet.

Eating

Everything is bigger in Texas, and the food scene is not an exception. Once home to an abundance of steakhouses, Dallas has more recently leaned into the Mex side of TexMex, with taco joints basically on every block. Mexican-inspired meals aren’t the only thing to munch on, though — Dallas is so diverse that you’ll find cuisines from all over the world, depending on where you are in the city. Be sure to check out this list of best eats broken down by neighborhood.
